Vale Athol Murray Olsson

It is with great sadness that the PAOC Cricket Club announces the passing of Athol Murray Olsson. Murray is a giant of our club having played 214 during 20 seasons throughout the 1940’s, 1950’s, 1960’s and 1970’s. He is a Life Member of PAOCCC and is a 15 Year Life Member of the Adelaide Turf Cricket Association. On field Murray won the B-Grade Batting (1971/72), C-Grade Batting (1966/67, 1967/68, 1968/69, 1969/70). Off field he served as Chairman for three years (1982/83, 1993/94, 1994/95). Murray also served as PAOCA President for two years (1982/83, 1995/96).

Murray is the father of our club games record holder Andrew Olsson (345.5 games) and David Olsson (91.5 games). One of the last events Murray attended for the club was the 2016/17 ATCA Awards Dinner when he attended as the very proud father of Andrew who received his ATCA 40 Year Service Award on the night (see attached picture).

Murray’s contribution to the PAOC Cricket Club and the wider PAOC Community has been enormous and on behalf of the PAOC Cricket Club, I would like to extend our sincere condolences to the entire Olsson family. Murray will be sorely missed.

Regards,

Ben Lobban
PAOCCC Secretary.
