Announcement

Dear Fellow Reds,

Well the time has come to close an exciting chapter and begin another, During the up coming 2010/11 cricket season I will be assisting Jason Gillespie with the coaching responsibilities at the Adelaide Cricket Club. This move presents a fantastic chance for me to learn from one of Australia's cricketing greats and provides me with an opportunity to get involved again at Grade level, which is something I have missed.

It also will allow me to continue putting something back into the game I love by helping others. I look forward to the challenge and feel strongly I can offer something to a fresh new bunch of cricketers.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank immensely the Prince Alfred Old Collegians Cricket Club for giving me an opportunity to coach our club under the Adelaide Turf Cricket Association banner. How my tenure will be perceived is not for me to judge but I can say is I am proud of what we have achieved and feel strongly we have enhanced our image even further during that time.

To Greg Stirling, Brad Weidenhofer and in particularly to my ex-Kensington Premiership teammate Will Rayner, I thank you for having the faith in me and encouraging me to take on the role, your support in the initial stages was vital.

To the players, I thank you for application, dedication and commitment to training. I have enjoyed watching your progress along the journey and I will continue to follow it from afar. I sincerely hope I have been able to help each and every one of you in some small way. To the captains thank you for all your efforts particularly at selection meetings ringing around for players trying to put 55 players on the park each week.

To the most hard working committee I have been involved with, you are the driving force behind this club and your collective efforts have inspired me and all those around you...Well done.

To all the supporters from club stalwart Bob Waters right through to Russell Stirling who never misses a PAOCCC finals match and to everyone in between including the Tyler clan thank you for your support.

To the partners/players families thanks again for putting up with all the late training sessions and for your support and sacrifices.

To those I have contacted in recent days about this announcement - I thank you for your unwavering support and help.

In conclusion, whilst the calls of "last cou-ple" "30 held" and the all too familiar "That'll Joe Lewis boys" will be a thing of the past - I take away with me some strong friendships and some wonderful memories of a fantastic cricket club. I wish the club and the new coach all the best for 2010/11 season and beyond. I also look forward to having a quick look at the odd PAOCCC game from time to time and plan to be a regular at Popeye and Quiz Night's for many years to come.

I THANK YOU ALL

Cheers
Sam Turner (Hooch)
