Bob "Stormy" Waters reports on the 89 run win

When: Wednesday 13 February 2008

Where: Prince Alfred College, Front Oval

Format: 50 over game, game commences at 11:00 a.m.

Umpires: Bill Allchin and Peter Dunn

Scorer: Bob "Stormy" Waters (PAOCA), Peter Harvey (SPCA)

PAOCA won the toss on a good pitch and batted. A good partnership of 48 set them going after an early loss and 2 good stands of 44 and 61 followed with very good batting by Chapman, Moffat and McColl with Bartlett (79*) piloting the remaining Princes batsmen to reach 8/235 from the alloted 50 overs. Bartlett (79*), Chapman (51) and McColl (50) each played splendidly.

After the lunch generously provided by the School, PAOCA had Ollie Thomas make early inroads into the Saints line-up with 4 for 33 from 10 fiery overs and Saints at 5/22, had a rescue job before them. This was not easy because all the Princes bowlers scented victory, as did the fieldsmen, and wickets fell regularly despite a bright and determined innings of 62 in good time from Oswald Jacbos, but Saints resistance ended after 39 overs with 144 runs, or 99 runs short. A cameo innings of quality from Lopex was worth 18 runs, including a really outstanding six which narrowly missed the College Chapel and ended running down into the carpark by the Back Oval.

The Chester Bennett Cup changed hands back to PAOCA and captains and the SPCA President honoured the day with brief impressive remakrs, thanking the players, umpires and scorers, and PAC for presenting the Front Oval in good condition, despite the prevailing drought conditions.
