Juggernauts strong showing against Hope Valley

David "Burra" Reed's PAOC Football Club's Red Juggernaut was up against Hope Valley last Sunday in Turf 20's.

While the PAOC Football Club's Red Juggernaut Twenty20 side did lose on the weekend, they can hold their heads high. They managed to bowl out an A Grade opposition and prevented the A Grade attack from bowling them out.

The Hope Valley side consisted of a strong contingent of A2 and B1 players whilst the PAOC Football Club's Red Juggernaut side consisted of;

1 B1 player (Dangerous)
3 C1 players (Godfather, Burra, Capt'n)
2 ex-C1 players (Hubcaps, Baz)
2 ex-LOD players (Fats, A4)
3 non-cricketers (Floyd, Lance, $tick$)

Unfortunately the Juggernauts were unable to field its strongest side, with Jacko interstate, Jonty overseas, Kills & Roy otherwise occupied and injuries to Roopa & Dr Beard.

The day started at the Hackney, from 12 noon, where a majority of the team met to car pool to Hope Valley. Hope Valley Oval was the scene of the Juggernauts slaughter at the hands of the ROCS last season, despite fielding a full strength side. It was this loss that led to the change of captaincy for this season.

With new leadership, the Juggs were better prepared and the absence of the Boonanza's certainly had a beneficial effect. Upon arrival at the oval, we were advised that the PAOC Cricket Club side had narrowly lost to Reynella by 6 runs.

Hope Valley won the toss and elected to bat. Burra opened the bowling and snared the prize scalp of Vaughan with a superb catch on the fence by $tick$. Burra claimed one more wicket to finish with 2/35 off his 4 overs, in his last over later in the innings his "Mr Lifto" action resulted in one ball being hit clear over the club house and was lost, suspected to have landed in the Hope Valley Reservoir. Despite collapsing after his 4 over spell, Hubcaps had managed to snare 3/26.

Dangerous replaced Burra and took an early scalp, but despite having them 6/66, their next pair doubled their score. Dangerous claimed the "Mr Lifto" prize going for over 12 runs an over, finishing with 1/38 off just 3 overs. A4 came on to replace Hubcaps and immediately put on the handbrake (at his end at least) with his crafty left arm orthodox, finishing with the respectable figures of 1/23 off 4 overs. Capt'n bowled at the end finishing with 1/24 off 3.4 overs. There were two run outs, to Burra and Floyd, who also kept very well.

Hope Valley ended up being bowled out in the 19th over for 151, with sundries the third highest scorer with 23 runs, 8 wides of which were contributed by Burra.

Floyd and Baz opened up for the Juggernaut and Floyd provided plenty of entertainment when he was bowled on the only no-ball "free hit" of the match. Their partnership of 30 runs ended with Floyd out on 19 off 25 balls. Lance joined Baz and continued to frustrate the Hope Valley A Grade attack. The Juggernaut were in a good position at 1/56 at the 8.2 over mark, while at the exact same point in their innings Hope Valley were 6/66 in comparison!

With the fall of Lance on 14 off 17 balls, the rot started, with the Juggernaut's next 5 wickets falling for only 16 runs. The Juggernauts that are currently playing cricket, gave us nothing; Burra didn't take advantage of being dropped on the second ball he faced and made 7; Dangerous failed to continue his form from Saturday's 58, scoring only 2; Capt'n who is averaging 60 in the C Grade made 1; and, Godfather came straight back down to earth with a Golden Duck after scoring his maiden ton on Saturday.

A4 and Fats put on the second highest partnership of our innings, of 29 runs, until A4 was out on 16 off 23 balls. That left the West Side connection to see out the overs, with Fats not out on 18 off 14 balls and $tick$ no out on 3 off 8 balls. A broken down Hubcaps was not required to bat, and the Juggernauts were 8/111 after their 20 overs, falling short by 40 runs.

The Juggernauts would like Roopa for scoring, Scoty for attending as 12th man and for our #1 supporter Yappy Dog for making the trip.

The whole Juggernaut team including Roopa, Yappy Dog & Scoty returned to the Hackney to enjoy dinner, beerds and some addict action on the TAB.

Congratulations to A4 who was named Juggernaut of the match for his "Handbrake" bowling effort and 16 runs with the bat.
