Valiant efforts but The Hackney Hotel Reds bow out.
After Ladies Night and a big night celebrating a clean sweep, the Hackney Hotel Reds met at the place from the night before. Absences were reported from Larkins, Smith, Aust and Marantos. After a quick stop at Macca's on the way, Styles won the toss and after looking dumbfounded and like he had just won Powerball, we decided to bowl first, perhaps not a good move in hindsight with only 8 players in attendance at the time. Fortunately everyone was there by ball 1, one which will no doubt be remembered for Picky's accidental beamer. Having got this horrible start out of our system, we knuckled down (somewhat coincidental with the arrival of the club coach) and Sam Tyler ended his opposing captain's day with another Tyler direct hit. Some tight bowling in the middle by Thomas and "pick of the bowlers" Larkins saw us hold Reynella to 126 off 20 overs.
Confident that we could chase down the Reynella score, unfortunately regular wickets fell and after 17 overs we were 6 for 102. Some good late hitting by Willsy (30 including four 4's) saw us needing just 7 from the last over to snatch it. Unfortunately Willsy, Thommo and DL lost their wickets chasing the runs and we could only manage 1 run for the loss of three wickets. The end to a disappointing campaign but no doubt a positive from the point of view of being able to concentrate on the "important stuff".
The Hackney Hotel Reds 9 for 120 lost to Reynella 9 for 126
Pick 4-0-30-0, recovered after a first ball beamer to bowl with good pace
Boucaut 4-0-24-0, elementary Boo... miserly spell
Larkins 3-0-13-2, bowled full and straight, the pick of the bowlers
Thomas 4-0-25-1, bowled with good heat and clever change up
Tyler 2-0-15-0, not his best, perhaps feeling the effects?
Wills 3-0-17-1, Bowler's Name?, struggled to back up 23 on the trot the day before
Weidenhofer 3 (5), nicked behind in the early stages
Aust 32 (26), advanced and missed a slower ball
Richardson 3 (9), bowled leg stump
Marantos 18 (17), short cameo before picking out a fielder
Tyler 13 (15), copped a dose of his own magic by sharp caught and bowled
Wills 30 (25), some good hitting but unfortunately, the big man couldn't quite get us over the line
TW Smith 8 (12), found the deep long off chasing quick runs
Boucaut 4* (9), tied down by left arm spinner
Thomas 0 (2), caught at point. Five metres either side...
Larkins 0 (1), Not enough Lifto, caught at long-on trying to tie the game
Pick 0* (0), not required
