Stats that matter

Simon Butler is well known for his lower order batting capability. In fact, those who saw his 60 odd not out to get the B's over the line a few years ago in the Semi-Final against Scotch could've mistaken him for a batsman. In recent times, it has been well publicised that Buts has put Bob "Stormy" Waters red pen under intense pressure. Buts has a renowned ability to record "red-ink", having only been dismissed once from seven A-Grade innings this season. This means he has an average of 29.00, an average many of the A-Grade batsman probably envy.

The leading batsman batman in the "not-out" category from 1997/98 to 2006/07 include some of the great tailenders seen at the club in recent times:

(minimum of 25 innings)
1. Simon Butler, 48 innings, 25 not outs (52.08% of the time not out), average per innings = 25.30
2. Venkat Lingampally, 55 innings, 25 not outs (45.45%), average 7.30
3. Peter Ingman, 53 innings, 24 not outs (45.28%), 6.97
4. Matthew Butler, 59 innings, 24 not outs (40.68%), average 10.40
5. Pat Ryan, 47 innings, 18 not outs (38.30%), average 14.41
6. Mike Millard, 36 innings, 12 not outs (33.33%), average 4.00
7. Tim White, 30 innings, 10 not outs (33.33%), average 6.00
8. Greig Graham, 57 innings, 18 not outs (31.58%), average 7.72
9. Sam Richardson, 54 innings, 17 not outs (31.48%), average 9.62
10. Ben Allen, 86 innings, 27 not outs (31.40%), average 13.37

Buts may have some competition from up and coming quick bowler Matt Davis. Matt too has only been dismissed once from six innings this season (with an average of 28.00). In fact, over his short career, Matt is on average not out 52.17% of the time, having recorded 12 not outs from 23 innings.

Daniel Orken also deserves a mention, having been dismissed only twice this season from seven innings.
