Season 2006/07 set to kick off in style!
Sunday, 17th September 2006
Club Secretary, Brad Weidenhofer reports on the off-season.
The club has had arguably one of its biggest offseasons in recent times, largely as a result of the disappointment of being relegated from Premier Grade last year. The club finished the season in great shape last season, with both the B-Grade and D-Grade making the Semi-Finals. The club this season, has been promoted to LOA as a result of the withdrawal of a team from this competition and finishing third last season. This will be a significant step up for the club and we are looking forward to the challenge. With a core group of talented young players, the club has a solid platform to build on this season.
The committee this season is as follows:
Greg Stirling, Chairman
Richard Hockney, Vice Chairman
Aaron Read, Vice Chairman
Brad Weidenhofer, Secretary
Greg Carmody, Treasurer
Simon Butler, Committee Member / Chairman of Selectors
Chris Drew, Committee Member
Simon Hains, Committee Member
Dave Larkins, Committee Member
Michael Richardson, Committee Member
Michael Siciliano, Committee Member
The A-Grade will be buoyed by the return of Sam Tyler (888 career runs @ 26.12) and the fantastic news that Alex Marantos, our sixth most successful A-Grade batsman from the past 20 years, will make a return to regular 2-day cricket (2,257 career runs @ 23.51). The club is also excited by the return of up and coming young fast bowler Sam Pick and looks set to gain the services of former First XI batsman, Sam Hurburgh. At this stage, we expect to retain all players from last season.
We have a new coach in Sam Turner - an ex Kensington A-Grade premiership player. Sam has already shown a great deal of enthusiasm towards helping not only the A-Grade players but also the lower grades as well. I encourage you to meet Sam, get to know him, and make sure you work together on improving your individual game. Let's take advantage of this new resource in the club and make sure we take it upon ourselves to improve our individual games.
The club is also please to announce six new captains for the 2006/07 season.
A-Grade Captain - Will Rayner
B-Grade Captain - Dave Gerner
C-Grade Captain - Michael Siciliano
D-Grade Captain - Ben Cunningham
E-Grade Captain - Shane Roberts and Simon Hains
The committee believes that these captains are outstanding candidates and will provide the club with new ideas and direction. We have already been impressed by the contribution of these players at preseason training.
I would also like to take the opportunity to thank Chris Drew, Aaron Read, Shaun Scannell and Sean Tanner for their contributions over the last few years as the outgoing captains.
As you will be aware, PAOCCC is pleased to be joining forces with The Astor Hotel, who have set us up with our own room that we will be using every fortnight. Old scholar Alex Taylor will be organising some drink specials as well over the coming weeks, the talk of the town being the possible introduction of Jungle Juice on Saturday nights. With the Astor providing our own room, I expect that end of match reports and presentations will again become popular events. Get back to the club (with partners as often as possible) and support those that support PAOCCC. Each grade will get a $10 Astor voucher (to use on drinks or meals) at the end of every round, so there is plenty of reasons to get back to the club. For more details, see PAOCCC joins forces with The Astor Hotel. And why not visit The Astor's website, The Astor Hotel
Dave Larkins has put his HECS debt to some use and designed a fantastic new training shirt that will no doubt be a hit. All players who get in early will have their nicknames put on the shirt as well at no extra charge. The club will be selling these shirts at cost in order to get as many players wearing them as possible. The shirts will be a sublimated design. We are hopeful that as many players will purchase these shirts and wear them on match day, in order to look professional and display our sponsors. Orders will need to be taken by Dave over the next week so that the shirts arrive in time for the first game. Click here to see the design, New training shirts
