Surprisingly there were some positives to come out of the Hep C's day of horror at Park 15, none of which were related to cricket!

With the late arrival of Barry "Salt & Pepper Meatballs" Rees, Ben "Rosey" Rosenzweig was forced to step up to open the batting, but was unfortunately out for a duck on the third ball of the second over. Sitting down afterwards Rosey was heard to say "Now I know why I retired from 2-day cricket a few years ago" and when quizzed why, he said, "Because I now have nothing to do for the next two days of cricket!". Not long later we were 4 for 19, 5 for 22 and 6 for 40 odd, and looking in dire straights. We only went on the make 133 and the opposition were half way to winning at 1 for 60, with nothing positive to come out of it, one could say.

However, if you were sitting in the change rooms after the game, you could have been convinced that we had in fact already won the match. So why this total change of heart and general atmosphere? Maybe some of the following could partly explain;

- Playing against famous footballers, Shane & Troy Bond, Eugene Warrior and Gavin Wanganeen.
- Salt & Pepper Meatballs' 75 runs, including the 50 odd run partnership with fill-in skipper, Heito, who only scored 3 runs.
- Heito declaring that in all his 18 years of cricket, this was the best afternoon tea he had ever seen put on by a PAOC team.
- The afternoon tea spread that boasted three separate helpings of sandwiches, a massive platter of rolls, a selection of donuts, fruit platter, cakes, various lollies, some bakers delight products and the impressive potato curry, rice and raita.
- Venkat was awe stuck as Wanganeen helped himself to the potato curry and declared " I love Indian food".
- That despite Golden Grove having a few extra players, after the break we still had more afternoon left over than we usually have at the start of other days teas.
- The players enjoying the rest of the afternoon tea after the game in the change rooms and Heito cleaning up the remaining potato curry (as seen in the photo).
- The players enjoying a refreshing stubbie or two of Boag's Draught after the match, a whole carton was drunk.
- The team being able to sit in the comfort of the Park 15 change rooms and watch the last 50 minutes of the Test Match telecast on Heito's so called "portable TV" (see photo).
- Tyson Smith who thought the TV was going to be one that you held in your hands and wondered how we would all be able to watch, he later declared "If that's your portable TV, I would love to see your normal TV!".
- All the players staying on after the game until the telecast finished and then moving onto the BBQ at Park 9.

Considering the comment made by Rosey earlier in the day, maybe it can be said that the Hep C's, despite results, still provides its players the most enjoyable "overall" cricket experience. Who better to sum this all up than Rosey himself, with a full stomach, a beer in one hand the cricket on TV in front of him (as seen in the photo), declared, "For a bloke that got out for a third ball duck, I can honestly say this has turned out to be one of my most enjoyable days of cricket ever!".

Long live cricket and the Hep C's!
