Tom Martin claims his first A-Grade wicket
An incredible weekend for the club with many highlights from all grades.
One of the greatest highlights had to be the first A-Grade wicket of Tom Martin. The A's were bowled out for 284 seven overs short of stumps and took to the field. Tony Pick took the new ball and claimed his first wickets for the club (2 for 20). Sam Tyler also bowled well and was unlucky to be dragged to give Roopa the final over of the day. Roopa has rated his bowling for some time now, however his prevoius years figures of 2 overs 0 for 22 and 2 overs 0 for 1 indicate the reason why the captain hasn't called on him earlier. Somehow Roopa's persistence got the better of the skipper and he got his way. His first ball was way down the leg-side, however he followed this up with a rank short ball which was hit straight to Matt Thomas who held a good catch to secure Roopa's first wicket. He finished as the pick of the bowlers with 1 for 3 from 1 over. Roopa has had a stellar year so far with 388 runs with four games to play.
The A-Grade recorded a strong win over reigning premiers RCP. Tony Pick batted well for 43 and a subdued Marcus Wills scored 82 not out off 130 balls, which included 10 fours and 3 sixes. Solid contributions from Weidenhofer (24), Drew (32), Rayner (28) and Thomas (39) helped the A's to their highest score this season of 284. The 8th wicket partnership of 71 between Wills and Rayner and 9th wicket of 78 between Wills and Thomas were the highlights. The B's had a strong come from behind win against RCP with a last wicket partnership of 50 between Ben Allen (15*) and Adam Richardson (24*) seeing the B's home. Earlier, Alex Marantos scored 83 and Chris Spencer 43 with many other players contributing. The C's comfortably accounted for Marion, bowling them out for 149 in response to the C's first innnings of 8 for 302 declared. Matt Davis claimed his first 4-wicket haul for the club recording the figures of 4 for 21 from 12.5 overs with 5 maidens. Amazingly, the C's finished 4 for 113 from 9 overs in their second innings. Dave Gerner hit 91 off 28 balls which included 13 fours and 5 sixes. The D's went down by a solitary run to Kilburn with strong performances with the bat from Rob Bean and Richard Hockney. Captain Ingman claimed three Kilburn wickets and Simon Butler continued on his merry way claiming four including a hattrick. The E's lost to top side Hope Valley, with strong performances from Captain Siciliano (58), Tim Hudson (4 for 31) and Michael Findlay (2 for 15).
