Grange Dolphins vs PAOC 1

Playing the early game after a biggish night at the trotts was never going to be easy, especially coming up against a full strength A Grade Grange Outfit. After losing the toss and being given the ball, Alex Marantos wobbled in and bowled a beautiful spell claiming 3 valuable wickets off his 4 overs. Aside from Alex the bowlers bowled too short and we were smashed to all parts of the small oval. One Grange batsmen played an amazing innings hitting 93 of approximately 4 balls to really put us on the back foot.

Chasing an unlikely 230 for victory Austy and Rosey opened the batting both making stylish ducks. Austy proclaimed as he left the ground after getting an edge to the first ball of the innings that 'he didn't even get time to move the bat'. Chopper came to the crease and made the Grange quicks look second rate but he unfortunately lacked real support in the middle order. The innings closed with Michael 'FOUR' Siciliano and Nick 'Beard' Hugo batting well both finishing with red ink. Despite the score-line a good day was had by all that participated.

Woodville Rechabite Wreckers vs PAOC 2

The later Turf-20's game was a tighter affair than the first, with a team of mainly A and B-grade players up against a strong Woodville Rechabites teamfter losing the toss Will 'Captain' Rayner was able to persuade the opposition to bowl first. A great start from Andrew 'General' Ramsay and Tom 'Red muff' Martin saw the reds 0/20 after two overs. But a steady flow of wickets meant we never really capitalised on this start. In the end a score of 103 was always going to be tough to defend, but with early wickets and tight bowling the potential was there to create an upset against quality opposition.

Highlights of the batting display included a tracer-bullet-like six from Marcus 'Double O' Wills (14), that narrowly avoided decapitating two small children playing on the boundary. Some lusty hitting from Matthew 'Brother of Ollie' Thomas (22 no) and 'The General' (15) also sticks in the mind. Chris 'I am on Kensington Road' Spence and Dave 'Spence is on his way' Larkins also performed admirably at the bottom of the order. Our number 11 batsman Matthew 'Butch' Butler fell just 50 runs short of winning a pub from 'Red Muff' and 25 runs short of a carton of Pale Ale from 'Captain'. He fell for a well-complied 0. James 'Can I smell a sausage-sizzle?' Freemantle also holed-out on the boundary for 0, while Chris 'CHHRIIISSSSSSS' Drew belted a shot-of-the-day on-drive for four on his way to 11.

The 'Captain' tossed the ball to 'Brother of' and Wills to open the bowling. In the first three overs the Rechabites were 2 for biscuits. A great start and the pressure was right on. 'Brother of' completed his four overs (2 for 33) in one solid spell, and managed to keep the runs down with the protection of just two fielders in the outfield. The 'Captain' resisted calls from the vocal fan-base to "bring Freemantle on from the Housing Trust end" and brought himself on after two tight overs from Double O. The 'Captain' surprised the opposition, and himself, by getting some spin from the Rechabites pitch, and finished with (0/24).

'CHHRIIISSSSSSS' then came on from the clubroom end and bowled an exceptional four overs of darty partnership breaking stuff, and again managed to hurt his fingers fielding (2/21). Despite a relatively tight session our total was never really enough to defend, and Woodville was able to pass our score halfway through 'Butch' (1/12) and the 'Ox's' (1/14) final spells.

The fielding of the Princes team was a highlight, as was the fighting spirit in the field. In fact Ed 'To and from' Thorogood took the fighting metaphor literally and decided to viciously head-but a Ox delivery in the final overs.

All-in-all it was a disappointing Turf-20 campaign, but a great learning experience and a great new concept from the ATCA.
