Player Profile

Name: Peter Ingman
Marital Status: Married, wife Sonja
Occupation: Business Manager
Highest Score: 34 (I always thought or 32 according to dodgy club stats
Best Bowling: 5/something
Greatest Cricket Achievement: as a perpetual tail ender it must be getting top score for either side, in the match against Gepps Cross a couple of seasons ago (34?). Could have got huge odds on this occurrence. (NB: I once second top scored in a team with 3 runs, coincidently the only time I have ever batted at 3 and the last time anyone in the club dared to reverse the batting order, during the much maligned captain Grahams reign, in some god awful long forgotten season). Otherwise leading D Grade to consecutive GF's, sadly not being present for one of these.
Ambition for this season: winning LO.C Premiership this year, taking 20+ LO wickets
Most memorable moment at PAOCCC: One all nighter in Melbourne with the various club stalwarts such as B Allen, S Pontifex, S Butler, A Heitmann, S Tanner & others I think, then as you do in your early 20s, despite being probably ridiculously drunk and having no sleep, we just had greasy food, instantly rejuvenated, and went to the football at the MCG to drink more beer. Rockin Robo's Captain Morgan blood spilling night would also rate highly as it shows how in Australian society a seemingly innocuous player, around the club for many years, can be transformed into an instantly recognised legend after a series of quite inane and bizarre events.
Most memorable game for PAOCCC: Semi-Final 2 years ago vs Unley that virtually ended in a riot from the other team. We were 9 down and 2 runs behind (after I had shortly before run out the clubs all time best batsman A Winter when cruising to victory) when the umpire, unsighted, failed to see G Graham run out by a metre going for the 3rd run after a defensive block and a crazy series of misfields and overthrows. A Hollywood script writer could not have come up with a closer finish. That won us the game and into the GF. The opponent Unley had not lost all year and were minor premiers. They were understandably furious. One of their leading players, said to a mystified G Graham, who has rarely played higher than F Grade, 'I played state cricket with you Graham, and never thought you would sink so low!'. Various other events are memorable including the inaugural, and grossly lopsided, Turf LO season when a fired up Rob Bean, not enjoying being patronized by the Adel Uni Legends side, sent (the late) Mark Schwartz to hospital with a vicious bouncer.
Funniest memory from the PAOCCC: Almost too many to remember, too many funny characters over the years so different to anyone you meet in the normal walk of life. Have never worked out if it is this club in particular or the game itself that attracts these characters. Evidence of this is that Heito used to compose an 'All Time Crazy XI'.
Most admired player at PAOCCC (past / present): hmmm good question. After much thought, there was a bloke called Ted Norman, now long forgotten and passed away some years ago. In the early 90s, it was under Fred Fairheads captaincy (cue sepia film) and we were playing on a shadeless and shimmering 'flat track bully' Vic Park deck. It was a windless February 40 degree day, and with nil chance of victory no one wanted to be there. We were short of players and at the age of 74 (yes, 74!), Ted, a multi-decade veteran of the club not only played but wicket kept for a very long 72 over day. I still feel guilty for bowling several leg side wides which he dived for, I don't know how he didn't break his hip. Amazing stuff (I guess explains why his generation won the war and we are a bunch of slackers). Also admire Stormy Waters for wearing an immaculate blazer, regardless of the heat (I am just old enough to have played cricket with him and his dress sense was just as impeccable on the field). Having been naturally gifted enough to play only lower grades I have always enjoyed the Saturday afternoon wit and humour of many long standing players including Graham, Winter (statistically the best player at the club in the last generation), Bean, Cess Stevens, more recently Cunningham and many, many others.
Favourite social event: again there have been many, It was fun hosting a leg of the progressive dinner a couple of years ago that everyone seemed to enjoy and got various new players involved with the club. Popeye nights were always fun. But nothing really beats a few beers at the pub talking the day over after a long summer day in the field. Luckily having been with PAOC for some years and benefiting from sponsorships and committees we have had a chance to experience a season with virtually each and every pub in Eastern Adelaide.
Most embarrassing cricket moment: any duck or dropped catch, there have been plenty (including a particularly dreadful example the game just past). You'd think I'd be used to it by now a big incentive for captaining a successful LO side is that I virtually never have to bat these days. One other event I would never want to repeat, wearing Alex Harrod's very tight spare pair of trousers (ex prep school?) when I forgot mine. Resembling a 100m sprinters lycra pants all the details showed and since then the doctors tell me I am unlikely to ever have children.
Favourite aspect of cricket: enjoying the summer afternoon with a sport that has a special feel and tradition all of its own, a great escape from your normal routine. Given the club was a recruiting desert for several years I am lucky that a few players of my generation continue to be involved with the club. I guess we are the only ones brain dead enough to continue after playing in season after season of losing sides. Years ago the club had some dreadful years in certain grades. The college boy way of looking at this is to call it not losing but 'character building!'
Which song would you like to walk out to bat to: make it a short one and I'll still catch the ending...
Do you have any cricket superstitions: never shave the day of a game

Favourite

Actor: always had a soft spot for Mad Max I and Lethal Weapon, Mel Gibson perhaps
Actress: I always thought those Baywatch girls had a lot of talent...
Movie: Spinal Tap, Apocalypse Now, Thin Red Line.
TV Show: Test Cricket, 24 hr cable news that repeats every 15 mins (drives my wife crazy)
Band / Group: Lou Reed - timeless.
Food: ? I love good Indian food but most definitely the worst I have had is in the sub-continent because the meat quality is so terrible. No matter how drunk you are NEVER eat from those road-side stalls as you will pay eventually.
Beverage: Coopers Ale or Stout, Red Wine (all three have health benefits, I'm pretty sure.)
Favourite Australian cricket player (past or present): Steve Waugh (or maybe Doug Walters, the 70s must have been a fun decade)
Favourite International cricket player (past or present): Ian Botham, Lance Cairns, Imran Khan
Sportsperson: Steve Waugh
AFL team: Crows

What would be your ideal job? Enjoy what I'm doing, would be nice to actually make some money one day I suppose rather than give it all to employees and suppliers.
If you were not playing cricket, what would you be playing: Bad hacking golf perhaps.
