Comprehensive winners
The Annual Chester Bennett Cup match between PAOCA and SPCA was played on the PAC Front Oval in perfect conditions. SPCA won the toss and had no hesitation in electing to bat.
SPCA fielded a very strong side with five of their top six batsmen having played State 2nd XI cricket. PAOCA knew that it would be a tough ask to restrict the SPCA top order but thanks to tight opening spells from Jack Dent (1/16) and Evan Lucas (1/15), SPCA were restricted to 2/27 from their first ten overs. From here on, PAOCA took over - hanks to a brilliant spell of left arm swing bowler from Will Latchford. He took 4/8 off 5 overs in a spell that will be remembered for years to come. He was well supported by Sam Tyler (1/7) and two brilliant run-outs from Sam Hurburgh. SPCA all out for just 50 in the 20th over - a remarkable effort considering the strength of the SPCA team.
PAOCA chased the SPCA score with a minimum of fuss, losing just two wickets and taking just 13 overs. Alex Chapman and Tom Moffat made light work of the score with 19 and 18* respectively. The game was all over before the scheduled lunch break in what will be remembered as one of the most remarkable Chester Bennett Cup matches in history. The newly created trophy was presented by Graham Burfield (PAOCA President) to winning captain, Jordan Walsh.
Thank you to Prince Alfred College for providing outstanding facilities - it was a pity that the game didn't last longer!
